$100 Laptop

Today I read a german news about an upcoming $100 Laptop developed by the MIT which should be introduced in Brasil in 2006. China and other countries, also in Africa, the middle-east and south-east Asia, should follow later.

Currently a computer is more expensive in Brasil than in the U.S.A. or Europe while the people in Brasil earn a fraction.

  • Thats very cool news.

If they get paid a fraction, they should come to the United States… of wait… they are. In very large numbers.

And the United States and European industry is already there …

  • Gotta LOVE Google – they are involved.

I don’t see Gates or Balmer or Microsoft mentioned anywhere. They are gonna run Linux I see ;)

Thankfully someone gets it. Working with the IT (or related) field here is a real chore.

Ericd: yes, from what I heard, this project is part of the ‘popular pc’ project, so it’ll only run free software. So it’ll come bundled with all the stuff people would usually need – ie, openoffice, firefox, blender, etc.
